What are your thoughts on Orlov's ideas? Is it all a load 'o rubbish or do they have merit? At which 'stage' do you think N.Z. (or any other country) is? Orlov himself claims that in the U.S., Stage 1 is already well advanced and they're entering Stage 2.
Preparedness is accepting that you can't control which way the wind blows but knowing that you can set your sails so that it'll take you to your destination anyway.

I do not think a social collapse would be as bad here (God I hope I am right) because I think any government would quickly intercede by bringing rationing in, so that every one would at least get something to eat and if your kids have food that would help in a big way. I think there will be local unrest but the police and maybe the army will put it down, I think we are different than America because has he says. Americans, more than most other people, need to be defended from each other at all times. Most people in this country do not have firearms (thank goodness) He He He just us sane ones

By the time anyone figures out what is going on it'll be too late, ESPECIALLY the government, rationing, what are they going to ration?, NZ dosent have bulk emergency food stores for 4 million people, we are so d**n reliant on imported garbage, our shelves would be empty within days and if the "collapse" is global, dont think that any of the exporters that currentley supply us will be sending shipments of food here, they will be too busy fending off looters from their wharehouses.
There is only one "supplier" you can rely on and that is yourself, dont kid yourselves that our government has any interest in our wellbeing, they may say they do but what else do you expect them to say, the very definition of the word politician is "speaker of untruths"
Arm yourself with the knowlege, skills and tools to be 100% self reliant, a wise investment indeed :-)
When I was in NZ one of the things I noticed was that when shopping for groceries, particularly fresh fruit and veg, was that nearly everything was proudly advertised as 'produced in NZ', except for a few things like oranges which came from Aus. As a mere holiday maker over there I don't know the ins and outs but you are in a much better place than us in the UK. We're about the same size and have over 60 million mouths to feed, with a lot less farmland left than you guys.
As to the original post, I think Orlov is a very credible source, having lived through the collapse of the Soviet Union. I work with a few Romanian guys, some of whom are old enough to remember the Communist era and the Revolution and they tell a similar story.
I agree that we have already started down the road described by Orlov. The process will be gradual, and we might not notice the different stages emerging until after it has happened, but at least we are aware of what is going on and that is why we do what we do.
I followed the link to five stages of collapse and I think we are further along in most areas than anyone realises. 1. Financial collapse this is a given, nothing backs our paper money [world wide] and too compound matters just about every country under the sun has printed more money to buy our way out of the recession we already have hyperinflation in New zealand, my house was worth 100 odd thousand ten years ago and now its worth 400 odd thousand 10 year later, when you break it down into weeks of wages it works out the same as ten years ago. so our dollar is worth 4 times less than it was 10 years ago. 2. commercial collapse - so many firms are shifting off shore to low wage countries and still barely making a profit. 3. political collapse - due to politicians promising our tax dollars to every tom thingy and harry with a sob story most countries state, city and governments are bankrupt. 4. social collapse - look to law and order world wide, more crimes of a horrific nature are commited now days than ever before, because of our liberial do goody attitude to crime, if you counsell them them will change their behavoir and become upstanding citizens. Rubbish, crim's are experts at manipulation and using our own laws against us. a rapist and a murderer should be humanly put down, same as you would a dog that bites. 5. cultural collapse - religion and culture and tradition and patriatisium are dead in the water. speaks for it self. If you do not have somethimng to believe in, you have no faith and without faith you have no hope, and without hope you are a dead man walking.
Can our government react fast enough to prevent all this happening when the rest of the world goes belly up? well put it this way, I am preparing a supply of food to keep my familly going for 18 months, I have learnt the most common trades that will be required in a darkages society, I can hunt, fish and farm, I have studied and practiced bartering for goods, and i can defend my family and have friends who will join me. what are you doing?
